FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Embarking on a portrait photography journey can spark questions and maybe even a few butterflies in the stomach. That’s why we’ve compiled a treasure trove of Frequently Asked Questions for you. Whether you’re pondering what to wear, how to pose, or simply what to expect from your session, we’ve got you covered. Our FAQs are designed to put your mind at ease and prepare you for an unforgettable photography experience.

How do I book a portrait session?

You can click “BOOK SESSION” at the top of this page or fill out the information on my contact form. You can also call me on 07870234473. Portrait sessions take place Monday to

Friday between 9.00am and 5.00pm or Saturday mornings between 9.00am and 12.00pm midday.

Once you have scheduled your session you will receive an email with directions to my studio and tips on how to prepare and what to bring to your session. Please don’t hesitate to call me if you have any questions before your session.

Payment of the sitting fee secures your date and time unfortunately, I cannot book provisional dates and all times are subject to availability.

Where will the portrait session take place?

At my studio in South Liverpool, this is also where I live or at an agreed location, such as nearby parks within 20 miles of South Liverpool.

What type of clothes should I bring?

If you are coming in for your portrait, we can work on styling the outfit together before your session. My style of portraiture is casual and informal, so we can talk about your choice of clothing together.

If you are coming in for a headshot, I recommend bringing two looks that are business casual and two that are more dressed up, such as dress shirts and suits. Please avoid patterns or logos. Solid colours work the best.

How to prepare children for a shoot?

Children should be well-rested before the shoot. It’s important that they also get lots of rest the night before coming into the studio. Also, please drink lots of water to stay hydrated.

For men: Do not shave or cut your hair the day before the session especially if you’ve been out in the sun because the colour of the skin will be completely different. It’s best to get your haircut a few days before the session.

For women: If it’s possible to coordinate clothing and colours, go for it. Soft colours – such as creams, pinks, blues, etc.- can work well. Avoid loud colours, bold patterns, big logos, etc.

How Long Does the portrait session take?

The timing all depends on how many looks and outfits you decide to go with. However, an average portrait session will take about 60-90 minutes. Please do arrive on time for your session as arriving late will shorten your session or your shoot could be cancelled without a refund.

This is why the portrait session is all about you; and I won’t be watching the clock, it will take as long as it needs to create the many different images you truly love. You will be able to see the results straight away, and I guarantee you will have more than one image you will love before the end of the session.

Should I book a makeup artist or hair stylist?

I do recommend booking a makeup and hair artist for either of your sessions, but it’s not essential. If you have any blemishes you don’t want to show up in the photographs, the make-up artists will work magic on you.

A good makeup artist is important to have because you will love how you look and it’s easier to retouch makeup that has been done properly.

What type of images do you take?

I produce elegant and uncontrived portraits. Whether the work is contemporary, music, corporate or lifestyle, my goal is to produce work which will stand the test of time and look classic in years to come.

My style of portraiture is classical and simple with a twist some drama and edginess where the subject is fully engaged. This allows me to connect creating images with a strong statement, transporting feelings or creating a special mood.

I shoot with my camera tethered to a laptop, so we can monitor progress in real-time, and you will be able to view and select your images at the end of your session. We go through everything together, and I provide you with expert guidance to help you narrow down the best images. You make the final selections, and there is no minimum requirement.

If you are not delighted with the results we will return to the studio and shoot some more. I guarantee you won’t leave without a portrait you are happy with.

What if someone is ill or if the weather is bad do we still do the shoot?

If you are unable to attend due to an emergency or illness, please let me know as soon as you can so I can reschedule the shoot for another day. All rescheduled dates and times are subject to availability. Things happen, so if you need to reschedule less than 48 hours before your scheduled time, Ean Flanders Photography will happily reschedule you at no additional charge on a one-time basis.

After a time, a new session fee will be required to schedule the appointment. No-shows are considered cancelled appointments, and a new session fee will be required to reschedule the session. The same applies if you are more than 30 minutes late with no notice, so please call or text me in good time if you are delayed on your way to your session.

How do we view our portraits?

You will have the opportunity to view your portraits straight after the session, or we can arrange for you to come back on another date. You will be shown up to 30 proof images to choose from. We will discuss the best way your final images will be edited, printed and presented.

Are my portraits photoshopped?

A high-resolution image gets the colours corrected. A fully retouched image takes more work and time as we retouch the skin, hair and the surrounding area if necessary. After the session, there will be an option to purchase additional fully retouched images.

What Wall Art products are available?

I give clients advice on how to present their portraits in some of the Wall Art packages I offer.

The final images you select will be personally retouched by me using the latest digital imaging software, and professionally printed by some of the UK’s finest printers. Your portraits can be presented in bespoke Wall Art frames, and hand-made contemporary wallmounted products.

Do you offer photos in a digital format?

There is a digital option where I can provide edited and high resolution JPEG digital files which you can make unlimited copies of for personal and non-commercial use.

I do not provide unedited or raw files.

How can I pay for our order?

Payment can be made by Bank Transfer (BACs) or Stripe. All payment is required with your order and is non-refundable, so please choose your order carefully.

How long will it take to process our order?

The lead time for my framed and mounted prints is four to six weeks from the order date.

Single prints and digital media will take 10-14 days.
